Houseboat Senang overlooks the Beulakerpolder, a beautiful nature reserve of reed beds, scrubland, fenland and open water. A wide variety of marsh birds, reed-bed birds and waterfowl feel at home here, including bearded tits, purple herons, whiskers and water rails. A walking and cycling path circles the area, with a birdwatching hide halfway along and beautiful views across the Beulakerwijde.

Flower parade Sint Jansklooster

What a small village can achieve! Every year, on the third Friday of August, Sint Jansklooster hosts its famous Flower Parade. Over the years, it has become the largest illuminated flower parade in the world. Impressive floats, decorated with thousands of hand-cut dahlias, make their way through the village. The event has even been recognised as part of the Dutch intangible cultural heritage. An unforgettable spectacle.

Blokzijl

Just 10 km from Houseboat Senang lies Blokzijl, a former Zuiderzee town with a rich trading history. In the past, peat was transported from here to destinations throughout the Netherlands. The town’s name literally means “fortified lock”. Today, picturesque streets and inviting terraces surround the characteristic harbour and lock. Belt-Schutsloot

The waterside village of Belt-Schutsloot is smaller and quieter than Giethoorn, yet just as authentic and picturesque. Surrounded by beautiful nature and located only 10 km from Houseboat Senang, it is well worth a visit.

On the second Friday of August, the village hosts its annual Gondola Parade. Spectacular illuminated gondolas glide through the waterways, attracting more than 10,000 visitors each year. An event not to be missed.

Houseboat Senang schaaten winter

Ice skating

When temperatures drop below zero, the shallow canals and waterways around Houseboat Senang quickly turn into natural skating rinks. The boats disappear, and skaters take their place, transforming the landscape into a completely different – but equally beautiful – winter scene.

On some occasions, guests have even been able to step directly from the houseboat onto the ice. Skate towards Giethoorn, or head in the other direction through Dwarsgracht and into the reedlands. A unique way to experience the area and a memory you’ll never forget.

It’s a great place, far away from crowds and traffic. Surrounded by nature, the only sounds you hear come from the wildlife around you. Yet there is still plenty to do. Giethoorn is within walking distance. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided on site, including facilities for cooking and barbecuing. Even the Wi-Fi is excellent :-). We really enjoyed our stay.

No. Bed linen, towels and kitchen towels are all provided.

Yes, it is possible to swim from the houseboat. Please note that there is regular boat traffic during the day. The water is usually quieter in the early morning and evening. For a more relaxed and spacious swimming spot, we recommend the nearby Beulakerwijde or one of the other Wieden lakes.

No, pets are not allowed at Houseboat Senang.

Unfortunately, the houseboat is not suitable for wheelchair users, as some passageways are too narrow. The accommodation is on one level and only the bathroom has a small threshold, which may make it suitable for some guests with limited mobility.

Yes, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the houseboat.

Check-in is available from 3:00 PM on the day of arrival.

Check-out is no later than 11:00 AM on the day of departure.

Does Houseboat Senang have its own jetty?

Yes, free parking for two cars is available directly opposite the houseboat.

Yes, there is a lockable shed where you can safely store your own bicycles. Two bicycles are also available for guests to use free of charge.

There are several public charging stations nearby, 900 metres from Houseboat Senang, at the parking area of Villa Bodelaeke (Jonenweg 5).
